Quartz countertops have gained immense popularity in the last few years as more and more homeowners look to move away from the typical granite and marble countertops. Unfortunately, the growing popularity of quartz countertops has also brought some misconceptions about quartz. Keep reading as this post seeks to debunk the top four myths about quartz countertops.

Myth 1: Quartz Countertops Lack Variety

Since quartz is engineered stone, it has a significantly uniform look (actually, some people are drawn to quartz because of this quality). However, this doesn't mean that the material lacks variety.

You can pick any color, style, or design for your quartz countertop. And while specked designs are more popular, you can opt for a solid design that mimics marble, granite, concrete, or limestone. Your options are limitless.

Myth 2: Quartz Countertops Are Highly Sensitive to Heat

Quartz is incredibly strong and highly resistant to heat damage. But just like with any other countertop material, quartz can discolor if exposed to extreme heat. And, if there is repeated exposure to the intense heat, it may eventually develop cracks. However, none of this indicates quartz is highly sensitive to heat. 

If you're using a quartz countertop, take the necessary safety measures like you would with any other counter material. Use trivets or pads for your hot pans and pots instead of placing them on the surface to prevent risks of damage.

Myth 3: Quartz Countertops Are Expensive

While it's true that quartz is more expensive than other low-cost surfaces like laminate, it's still cheaper than other countertop materials of its caliber like granite. The price of quartz ranges between $70 and $100 per square foot, while that of granite ranges between $60 and $270 per square foot. 

Keep in mind that quartz is just as strong and durable as granite. Besides, you can have a quartz design that mimics granite or marble to provide a similar look at a lower price. Overall, installing kitchen quartz countertops is a smart investment when you consider their value and price.

Myth 4: Quartz Countertops Are High Maintenance

Natural stone materials like marble, granite, and limestone require periodic sealing to safeguard against stains and spills. Quartz countertops don't need sealing or waxing as they are permanently sealed by the manufacturer.

Also, quartz is non-porous, meaning the risk of harmful bacteria accumulating on the countertop surface is low. Regarding cleaning, you only need to wipe down the surface using a paper towel or soft sponge, clean water, and mild detergent. Your quartz countertop will retain its beauty and shine for many years.
