When Should You Call A Contractor About Your Vinyl Siding?

Isaac Simpson

Vinyl siding is often recommended because it is durable, has low maintenance requirements, and stands up well to wind, rain, and the elements. But that is not to say vinyl siding does not ever develop problems. Particularly as it ages, it can start to show some signs of wear and damage. So, what signs should trigger you to call your siding contractor for vinyl siding repair or replacement? Take a look.

Warping and Bending

Although siding is quite tolerant of temperature changes, years of fluctuating temperatures can cause it to start stretching, warping, and bending. If you look at your vinyl siding and see that some pieces look bent or bowed in the middle, this is what you're seeing. Siding that is warped or bent is more likely to let the water trickle in behind it. As such, you don't want to leave warped siding in place for too long. Call your siding company. They may recommend just replacing the warped siding pieces, or they may tell you that your whole home can benefit from being resided.

Blistering

Years of sun exposure can cause some vinyl siding to develop blisters on its surface. Sometimes, these blisters are mostly cosmetic and don't really affect their ability to protect your home. Other times, the blisters may be deeper, allowing for leaks. Have a siding contractor take a look instead of making your own assumptions about the severity of your blisters. Even if they are just cosmetic, it may be worth replacing those pieces of siding to maintain the aesthetics of your home.

Cracking

Vinyl siding becomes more brittle with age. Older siding probably won't just crack on its own, but it is more likely to crack if someone bumps into it with yard equipment, hits it with a snow shovel, or something like that. Cracked siding may soon fall off completely. And if you have freezing temperatures in your area, water might find its way into that crack, expand, and widen the crack. Generally, if some of your siding is starting to crack, that means all of your siding is old enough to warrant replacement. However, a siding contractor can look at your home and give you a more accurate idea as to whether this is necessary.

Vinyl siding is long-lived, but it does not last forever. If yours is developing any of the issues mentioned above, it's time to have it repaired or replaced.
